Cities of Culture: whose Vision? whose Agenda?
In 2006 the Core Cities Theology Network held its first conference. The theme was the influence of culture on core cities. It was held at Scargill House from 14th to 16th September.

An introduction to the report sets on the background to the formation of the Core Cities Theology Network.

At the opening of the conference stories from the three of the cities represented were presented.

Elaine Graham from Manchester University gave a keynote address with the Title Cities of Culture; Reflections from the Commission on Urban Life and Faith.

Two visions of the city were presented. Paul Collard the Director of Creative Partnerships and the leader of the Newcastle-Gateshead bid for European Capital of Culture 2008 gave an official view and this was complemented by Barbara Glasson and John Bradbury with a grassroots view of the effect of culture on Liverpool.

Timothy Gorringe, Professor of Theology at Exeter University gave a theological analysis of culture.

Finally, the final section attempted to set an agenda for future reflection by highlighting some of the motifs and themes from the conference. One participant gave a personal view of the conference.
